Hand Surgery
Hand Surgery as a specialty began during World War II when the U.S. Government commissioned Dr. Sterling Bunnell to develop standards of care for war victims.
In 1989, the American Boards of Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Orthopedic Surgery collaborated to create the Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Hand Surgery for Board-Certified surgeons with additional training and expertise in the field.
Dr. Labs, certified by both the American Board of Surgery (1992-2002) and the American Board of Plastic Surgeon (active) received the CAQ in Hand in 1992.
